When should a child first see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends every child have a first orthodontic screening by age 7. Is orthodontic treatment only for teenagers?

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Invisalign cases typically run 12–18 months (mild cases can finish in as little as 6 months), and traditional braces usually take 18–24 months. Will braces or aligners hurt?

You'll feel some pressure and mild soreness for a day or two after braces are placed and after each adjustment, and a similar feeling during the first day or two of each new Invisalign tray — that's a sign your teeth are moving. Most patients manage it easily with over-the-counter pain relievers, soft foods, and orthodontic wax. Today's brackets, wires, and aligners are far gentler than those of a decade ago, and most of our Boca Raton patients are surprised at how comfortable treatment actually feels.

Do I still see my regular dentist during treatment?

Yes — please keep every regular cleaning and checkup. Your dentist handles cavities, gum health, and general oral care; Dr. Tendler handles tooth and jaw alignment. The two work together, and staying current on cleanings is especially important during braces or Invisalign because brackets and aligners make plaque easier to miss.
